Beginning with one person reading fairy tales in a hammock filled with as many kids that could fit in and crowd around, the children's library project has evolved through 12 wonderful years into a community cultural center. Our central focus is to provide support for education and lifelong learning skills for the children of Barra de Potosi and their families.
The Children's Library Project now is a private not-for profit org with the aim of supporting education and learning for life through love of reading for the children and their families in Barra de Potosi, Guerrero, Mexico. We have a small building with 3000 books and art supplies.
We collect donated school supplies and books - many from our very generous tourist visitors both national and international. We also have been very happy to receive the generous support of the Larouse Publishing Company in yearly donations of books.
We distribute these school supplies packets in equal value to all the students of Barra de Potosi and we distribute donated books to all of our three schools and their teachers in addition to adding to our library shelves ... with now more than 3000 titles!
At the library we are constantly developing a curriculum of classes and workshops to support our student's school work including after school homework help, English classes, dance and art classes.
We are also developing a project for environmental protection and sustainability awareness that includes workshops, classes, community cleanups and recycling.
All activities are free of charge for the children and families of Barra de Potosi, Guerrero, Mexico.
